What's in the Yard? APRIL 2026
April 2026
Welcome to the first What’s in the Yard for 2026! Each week, fresh recycled timber arrives in our lumberyard through our trusted demolition partners. Some pieces come from Canberra homes, others from landmark buildings, old Sydney factories, warehouses and wharves. Sometimes the recoveries are substantial, delivering large volumes of timber. Other times it’s just a few carefully salvaged packs.

As stock builds up in particular species and sizes, we’re often able to supply larger quantities at short notice. That opens up more possibilities for your next project and plenty of scope to get creative with this remarkable resource.
Salvaged Spotted Gum Decking – Wide Boards
Salvaged from an ACT home, we’re currently processing a batch of recycled Spotted Gum wide decking boards measuring 130 x 25mm. They are unusual because they were machined with a groove in each edge and designed to be laid with plastic clips holding them down using the groove. However, the plastic clips did not hold the hardwood boards down sufficiently, and the grooves caused some movement in the edges of the boards, causing the deck to become a little uneven over time. The owner is a perfectionist and so the deck was replaced. The clip fixing means that there are (almost) no nail holes in the face of the decking, which also has a slightly domed profile to shed water.
The boards have grooves on each edge which may be removed during processing, bringing them to approximately 100 x 25mm finished size. For comparison, our standard decking is 83 x 18mm, and we occasionally offer thicker 28mm boards for added stability.
We are selling the salvaged decking as is at 130x25mm for $9.15 per metre or $70.36 per m2. Total stock would be 157.7 m2 at this width.
We are also offering it with the grooves machined off and a 6mm pencil round to all edges for customers who would like an "as new" board without the grooves. This would result in a 100x23mm size, costing $12.06 per metre or $120.60 per m2. Total stock available would then be 121.3 m2 at this width.
These are both really good prices for extra thick, wide, durable spotted gum boards.

Short & Wide Boards
We have a range of short, wide boards that are ideal for stair treads, mantels, shelves and feature joinery. They’re also well suited to woodworking hobbyists, schools and community sheds.
Widths range from 175mm to 250mm, in 50mm and 75mm thicknesses. We’re currently sorting these into smaller, practical packs. If you’re looking to stock up for projects at home, these packs are worth a look.
Salvaged Flooring
While we don’t currently have a single large flooring recovery, we do have a range of packs available, generally between 300–500 lineal metres, ideal for renovation projects.
Available species include:
Wide Ash – 130 x 19mm
Baltic Pine – 100 x 19mm
Narrow Brushbox from Llewellyn Hall (the last of this salvage)
Narrow Jarrah
Wide Blackbutt from Clontarf, Sydney
Ramin from a Sydney squash court – approximately 60m² remaining in 55mm and 58mm widths
Mixed Reds from a Surry Hills beauty parlour – 90 x 18mm SN profile, over 100m² available
If you’re searching for something specific, it’s always worth asking.
Wide Ash – Long Lengths
We currently have good volumes of Wide Ash in long lengths, measuring 225–250 x 50mm. These are ideal for internal beams or undercover outdoor structures.
Ash is not suited to exposed external conditions, so it’s best used internally or in protected outdoor areas.
Ridge Boards
We recently received a delivery of wide, non-structural ridge boards. These boards open up all sorts of design possibilities.
They can be repurposed into pergola beams, benchtops, table tops, doors and classic ledge and brace doors. They also work beautifully as wide board flooring or for bespoke architectural details and custom furniture pieces.
If you’re interested in incorporating wider boards into your project, contact us to discuss the options.

Timber Packs in the Dome
The dome in our lumberyard houses a wide range of timber packs ready for use.
Canberra Local Ash
Light in colour with beautiful grain, this species was widely used in early Canberra homes. Ideal for flooring, benchtops, cladding and furniture projects.
Blue Gum / Coastal Reds
Excellent for benchtops, furniture, flooring and internal cladding. They look particularly good lightly dressed with a sawtooth finish. Not recommended for external use unless carefully sealed.
Spotted Gum
Highly varied in colour and grain and perfect for benchtops and furniture. It’s relatively rare in demolition timber and salvaged from houses, factories and buildings in NSW and Queensland.
Brushbox
Ranging from rich reddish brown to pinkish grey, Brushbox is hard wearing and well suited to flooring, benchtops and furniture.
Ironbark / Mixed Dense Reds
With a deep red hue and high durability, these timbers are suitable for benchtops, furniture, external decking, cladding and outdoor projects.
Mixed Ash
A versatile internal timber suited to lining boards, flooring, benchtops and furniture.
Posts & Beams
We have a wide range of posts and beams available for internal and external structures, along with lower grade material suitable for landscaping features.
If you’re finishing off a landscaping or building project and need substantial recycled timbers, we can help.
