A good deck is essential for enjoying the great Australian outdoors.
So you want a deck that dishes up maximum enjoyment and requires minimum maintenance? For over 20 years, it's been this belief that drives us to create our decking from the most dense and durable recycled Australian hardwoods we can find - like Ironbark, Turpentine, Tallowwood and Blackbutt. We are also happy to advise on the best coatings and designs for durability. We can produce custom profiles, to match existing or to make something unique.
We’ll customise the finish to fit the look you’re creating in your home too. We can dress the timbers back for a clean appearance showing the colour and grain of the timber. Or the top surface of the decking boards can be left rough sawn which gives a rustic appearance like an old farm verandah or the floor of an old wool store.
Our recycled timbers are sustainable and ethically sourced unlike new Merbau decking which is logged from tropical rainforests.

The Process
We make our recycled timber decking to order, so please allow 2-4 weeks for delivery. Once you’ve selected your preferred profile and timber species, let us know the square metres needed, and we’ll provide you with a quote for the work. Once the quote is accepted, we require a 50% part payment. When this is paid the job will go into production. As soon as your order is ready, we’ll contact you to arrange collection / delivery of your recycled decking timber.
If you’re not sure how many square metres you’ll need for your new deck, measure the length and width of your space and then multiply them together to get the square metres. Alternatively, you can use an online square metre calculator. You will need to add an allowance for offcuts and wastage during installation. Usually 10% is standard, more for a deck with a complex shape. To add 10% wastage multiply the total square metres by 1.1
We will supply all the recycled timber you’ll need for your new deck including any support posts and beams.
Maintenance
If decking timbers are left uncoated, then the recycled timber will gradually weather to a rustic grey finish, which some of our customers prefer. It means less maintenance, but the timbers won’t last as well in the long term, especially if the deck isn’t covered.
Coating the timbers will help preserve them, and keep more of the colour and grain visible, but it needs to be reapplied regularly. The amount of maintenance required is dependent on how much exposure to the elements your new deck will face. A north facing, sunny deck will need more regular recoating than a south facing or covered deck.
We recommend the Osmo natural Decking Oils for coating timber decking. Osmo oils are made from natural plant oils and do not peel or flake, so they are easy to recoat. They are available in a range of stains to match the colour of your timber. Upon application, you will lose some of the natural variation in the colour, but the stains last a lot longer in the Australian sun than a clear finish.
Depending on the amount of exposure to the elements, a stained deck will require a recoat every 1-3 years.
Things to keep in mind
We make our decking boards from timbers recycled from the internal structure of old buildings, like floor joists and rafters. Recycled timbers provide the strength and durability of old growth Australian hardwoods, with traces of the timber’s past life and history, including occasional old nail holes and surface checking.
Our standard 83 x 18mm wide boards are a good width for strength and stability. We can make wider decking boards as a custom option, but they tend to be less stable and create greater movement in the boards (which can even sometimes close the gaps between the boards in wet weather). Wider boards should be made thicker - we generally recommend a 5:1 ratio between width and thickness.
Decking boards are supplied in random lengths, and fitted together on site by the carpenters. We can supply fixed lengths if needed, but they will usually be at a higher cost than random lengths.

decking PRODUCTS
Clean Dressed Decking
The boards are planed back to reveal the colour and grain of the timber. Clean dressed decking is easy to install and maintain with a decking oil.
RECOMMENDED USES Suitable for all under cover & exterior decking.
SIZES In clean dressed decking we make an [83 x 18mm] board or an [83 x 28mm] board for extra strength and durability.
Rough Sawn & Wire Brushed Decking
The top face of each plank is left rough sawn for a rustic look and then wire brushed to remove splinters. This finish gives the rough sawn timber a lightly burnished appearance.
There is less chance of slipping on the grippy rough sawn surface compared to clean dressed. However, if exposed to the weather rough sawn decking will have more tendency than clean dressed decking for small splinters. It may need occasional attention with a wire brush.
RECOMMENDED USES This finish is perfect for a covered pergola or verandah.
SIZES Rough sawn & wire brushed boards will be a little thicker than clean dressed boards. Options are [83 x 20mm] or [95 x 20mm] if the edges are also left rough sawn.
