RECLAIMED TIMBER SALES CONSULTANT

(POSITION OPEN - FULL TIME ROLE)

We’re looking for a full time Reclaimed Timber Sales Consultant to join our team. In this dynamic, client-facing role, you’ll collaborate with builders, architects, renovators, and homeowners to bring their visions to life. Working with our wide range of sustainable, recycled timber products, you’ll take projects from concept through design and quoting, and into production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients to understand their needs and develop creative solutions in recycled timbers

  • Quote recycled timber for projects from residential to larger construction and commercial scale

  • Sell our range of high quality furniture and customise it to client requirements

  • Quote bespoke furniture and built-in joinery with the help of our designers and joinery managers

  • Maintain strong client relationships with exceptional service

About You

  • Passionate about sustainable timbers and excited to work with high-quality, environmentally friendly products

  • Goal-oriented, with a passion for sales and the motivation to contribute to team and personal sales targets

  • A skilled communicator and active listener, with the ability to understand and interpret client needs and ensure our clients receive exactly what they are looking for

  • Proven success in previous roles

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a sales or similiar customer-focused role

  • Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn new skills quickly

  • Organised, with strong general computer skills (experience with Google suite & Mac computers preferred)

  • Understanding of furniture/building construction and relevant industry terminology, and able to learn relevant technical information quickly

  • Hands-on experience in a timber trade or other practical area would be considered positively in this position

Remuneration

The salary for this position is $70,000 – $90,000 per annum, plus superannuation and performance-based bonuses.

High performers have the potential to be significantly rewarded through our monthly sales bonus structure. Details of the bonus structure will be provided to shortlisted candidates.

SENIOR JOINER & INSTALLER

(POSITION OPEN - FULL TIME ROLE)

Thor’s Hammer is looking for a skilled Senior Joiner & Installer who loves working with solid timber and has the on site skills to efficiently install joinery when required.

Once you get up to speed with our production methods you’ll be taking on making our more complex custom pieces and one-offs in our joinery work, and also getting out on site when needed to install doors, benchtops and custom shelving units.

We’re after someone who:

  • Has extensive trade experience and good references

  • Knows how to balance quality with efficiency – hitting deadlines without cutting corners

  • Is confident with both hand tools and machines, with an eye for detail and accuracy

  • Has excellent problem solving skills

  • Experience guiding or training others, and keeping an assistant on trackIf you enjoy making high-quality joinery and furniture with top of the line equipment and machinery, and you like the on site challenges that the occasional install brings, this role will give you plenty of satisfaction and keep your skills honed.

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER

(POSITION FILLED)

Join our team at Thor’s Hammer, a leading timber recycling and furniture making business located in Canberra, as a part-time Social Media Manager. Work closely with the Marketing Manager to develop and execute our social media strategy to enhance our brand's visibility, engagement, and growth across various social platforms. We’re looking for a fast learner, an efficient worker and a strategic thinker with an interest in working in sustainability, architecture and design.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engaging, creative social media posts that reflect our brand

  • Schedule and manage social media posts using Later scheduler (training provided)

  • Share real-time Instagram stories from our workshop, gallery, and events

  • Maintain story highlights and update our Linkinbio page (custom-built on Squarespace)

  • Repurpose and leverage existing content from our website and social channels

  • Manage daily community interactions (inbox, comments, tags, etc.)

  • Boost high-performing posts (Meta platforms)

  • Capture high-quality on-site photos and videos (of our workshop processes, the team at work, and our varied recycled timber products), ensuring a quick turnaround with simple edits

  • Occasionally write blog posts and website copy to support wider marketing program

  • Work with the Marketing Manager to design and execute social media campaigns that reflect the greater content marketing strategic plan

Must-have skills & experience

  • Deep understanding of the nuances of different social media platforms and how to optimise content for maximum engagement

  • Experience managing social media accounts with high follower counts and activity

  • Experience using social media scheduling tools like Later (or similar)

  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to quickly understand and mirror our unique tone of voice, and be able to skillfully tailor content for different platforms

  • Ability to maintain a consistent and cohesive visual and written style across all content

  • Experience or training in digital marketing, with a strong grasp of social media and content marketing strategies

  • Experience shooting and editing photos and videos for content marketing. (NB. If you specialise in only photography or videography, we still encourage you to apply). Must have your own camera (an iPhone with a high-quality camera may be suitable)

  • Genuine interest in at least a few of the following areas: sustainability, woodworking, architecture, design, construction, or landscape design

Position Details 

Location: Griffith, Canberra (On-site at the Thor’s Hammer workshop)

Time commitment: Approx. 16 hours per week (flexible schedule)

Reports to: Marketing Manager

5 day salary: $65,000 to $75,000 + Super p.a. - pro rata for 2 days (approx. 16 hours). We are open to an equivalent hourly based arrangement (with conditions) as well.

*N.B. While the role is 2 days per week, daily community management of the social media inboxes is a vital part of the role. We have allocated approximately 1 hour spread throughout the week for these tasks.

TIMBER RECYCLER

(POSITION FILLED)

Thor’s Hammer is looking for a strong, capable person to work full time in our timber recycling team. The main tasks are:

  • Working as part of a team to de-nail and metal detect timbers. (Timbers need to be completely free of nails so our dressing and joinery machinery isn’t damaged).

  • Sorting recycled timbers by species, and grading for quality.

  • Grinding and brushing posts and beams.

  • Assisting with selecting timbers and picking out orders.

  • Moving packs of timber with the forklift.

  • Assisting the dressing team to machine timbers.

We will provide training in a heap of skills including:

  • Identifying timber species.

  • Grading timber.

  • Forklift operation.

  • Hand tools – hammer, pliers, pinch bar, metal detector.

  • Power tools – air drill, air de-nailer, circular saw, grinder.

  • Machinery – De-nailing line and chalk line docker, custom built floor board cleaning machine, timber dressing machinery.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about recycling timber and enjoys working as part of a team. You will need to be able to persist with repetitive work (although there is plenty of opportunity to move between different tasks during each day). 

We are open to the position being full time or 4 days per week.

TIMBER MACHINIST

(POSITION FILLED)

Thor’s Hammer is looking for a motivated person with a passion for recycled timber and experience in physical work to join our Dressing team. 

As Assistant Timber Machinist, your job is to dress our recycled timbers and make profiles such as flooring, decking and cladding to fulfil customer orders. You will also be dressing timbers for our joinery workshop to make into furniture and bench tops, and making products such as beam seats and stair treads. You will learn to operate and set up woodworking machinery including jointer, thicknesser, spindle moulder, 6 head moulder, band resaw and panel saw.

To succeed in this job you need to have an aptitude with machinery and a strong interest in timber and recycling. 

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a positive can do attitude

  • Is physically capable and strong

  • Is a good team player 

  • Has experience in process work

  • Has an understanding for machinery / mechanical things 

  • With excellent attention to detail

A forklift licence and previous experience with timber / timber machining would be a plus.

For the right person we can provide training including:

  • Timber species identification 

  • Grading timbers

  • Forklift operation & licence

  • Operation of dressing machinery

  • Glueing and sanding stair treads and bench tops

The salary will reflect the skills and experience you have relevant to the role. Usually the starting rate in this role would be around $29 to $34 per hour (casual). A full time arrangement with conditions is also possible. There is plenty to learn and lots of potential to develop skills and advance in this role - up to full timber machinist and beyond.
