Three Shelving Styles, One Home

There’s no rule that says every shelf in a home needs to look the same. For this project, the homeowner in Wright chose three Thor’s Hammer shelving solutions, combining B&T Shelves, Floating Shelves and Ladder Frame Shelves throughout their home.
Ladder Frame Shelving in Bluegum / Coastal Reds and Canberra Local Ash
The project started with a visit to our showroom. The homeowner had initially imagined having something unique commissioned, but after seeing our shelving designs in use, they were won over by the range of styles already available. “I really liked the shelves you had in your showroom and decided to order those instead.”
The design was then tailored to the home, including a mix of Bluegum / Coastal Reds and Canberra Local Ash across the three shelving solutions. The two timbers add colour and variation, and were also used to create a connection between the different shelving styles throughout the home.
Ladder Frame Shelving
The largest shelving unit in the home was the 4m-long Ladder Frame Shelving. The shelves were mainly Bluegum / Coastal Reds, with some shelves manufactured in Canberra Local Ash to create contrasting accents.
The owner was particularly interested in having shelves at different heights, allowing room for larger books and ornaments. During the design process, some of the shelves were adjusted to make this possible, while the removable shelves also allow a double bay of storage when more height is needed.
The shelving was fixed to the wall to ensure stability and safety. For a shelving unit of this size, we’ll generally need to secure it to the wall, while still allowing the shelving to retain its open, furniture-like appearance.

B&T Shelving
Our B&T Shelves are modular in design, allowing you to create the number of shelves and bays that work for your storage needs. This design provides six levels of shelving with three bays per shelf level.
For this project, the B&T Shelves were mainly manufactured in Canberra Local Ash, with several Bluegum / Coastal Reds shelf planks providing a contrasting accent. The steel end hoops add an industrial element to the design.
The modular nature of the B&T system makes it possible to adjust the configuration to suit the space and the items being stored, while the combination of timber species gives the shelving a more individual look.
Floating Shelves
Six Floating Shelves were installed elsewhere in the home, continuing the mix of timber species used throughout the project.
The floating shelves are wall-mounted using Floatfix adjustable concealed brackets, keeping the fixings hidden for a clean finish. The adjustable design allows fine-tuning during installation to achieve the correct spacing and a level shelf.
Correct installation is important for safety and stability, with the fixings suited to the wall construction and shelf requirements. It’s another detail that helps achieve the clean, uncluttered look of floating shelves.
A shelving solution that works throughout the home
Using three different shelving designs allowed the homeowner to choose the right approach for each space, while the combination of Bluegum / Coastal Reds and Canberra Local Ash provides a common thread throughout the home.
The result is a collection of shelving that feels considered and gives a special feel to each room
The owner was particularly pleased with how the project came together, from the initial measuring through to installation.

They also appreciated the process of working with the Thor’s Hammer team, noting that the measuring was thorough and that our design team was upfront about costs and flexible when changes were requested.
And it sounds like this won’t be their last Thor’s Hammer project.
“I’ve got another project in mind for the future and will definitely be back to Thor’s to have it made, I couldn’t have asked for better.”
