THOR’S HAMMER IN THE WILD: LAGER HOUSE

Capital Brewing Co recently launched their new neighbourhood pub, Lager House, in the East Traders precinct at Anzac Park East in Campbell. The location was initially kept under wraps, fuelling plenty of speculation about where the new venue might land. Canberrans were quick to weigh in, before some eagle-eyed redditors pieced it together from an Instagram post and revealed the new spot.

Selecting Timber in the Yard
Capital Brewing Co visited our lumberyard to hand-select the recycled timber for the fit-out. It’s something we always encourage. Getting into the yard and seeing the material in person makes all the difference. For Lager House, they landed on Bluegum / Coastal Reds.

Bluegum / Coastal Reds
Bluegum / Coastal Reds is primarily salvaged by our demolition partners from houses and buildings across NSW. The mix is largely Sydney Blue Gum, along with other coastal red hardwoods of similar colour and density, including Southern Mahogany, Red Mahogany and Rose Gum. These timbers originate from NSW coastal forests and are well suited to benchtops, furniture, flooring and internal cladding, making them a strong fit for the Lager House interior.
We were supplied with a cutting list and provided the timber to J&J Interiors, who completed the fit-out. At the last minute, we jumped in to help make some recycled Oregon sign boards that were needed urgently, but otherwise we didn’t get our hands dirty on this project.

Supply Only or Full Joinery, We’re Happy to Help
Whilst our joinery team would have relished the opportunity to craft the benchtops, bar, furniture and tabletops, we’re just as happy to supply the timber on its own. If you’ve got a preferred maker or a tradie you trust, we can work alongside them to make sure everything runs smoothly. Many carpenters and joiners source their recycled timber from us because they know they’re getting material that’s properly seasoned, durable and ready to perform. We’re always open to collaboration, whether we’re involved in the full joinery build or simply supplying the timber that brings it together.
Visit Lager House
Lager House, located within East Traders at Anzac Park East, is well worth a visit. Open from 11:30am seven days a week until late-ish, it offers a full kitchen, free basement parking, weekly deals and specials, a pet-friendly outdoor area and free trivia on Wednesday nights.
