Warmth and Art Deco Elegance in Forrest

October 2025

When Ian stopped by our Floriade market stall and invited us to come back and photograph the recycled timber work we created for his home in Forrest, we were thrilled. The renovation had been completed during Covid, so we missed the chance to see the finished job. What we didn’t realise at the time was how beautifully the Ironbark / Dense Reds timber would blend with the understated elegance of the home. The result is a home full of warmth, texture, and restrained elegance.

The Character of Recycled Dense Reds

The recycled timber pieces we crafted for Ian’s home bring depth and character to each room. For Ian’s job, we selected through our Ironbark/Dense Reds mix for timbers with an even medium red tone, to give his furniture the refined, more uniform appearance that he was looking for.

The contrast between the warm tones of the recycled dense red hardwoods and the lighter finishes in the home creates a balanced, inviting atmosphere that complements the surrounding furnishings.

Custom Timber Pieces
Room Divider and Shelving

A custom room divider with integrated shelving runs floor to ceiling, defining the space while maintaining openness and flow. Minimal shelving keeps the design light, with the rear shelves cleverly serving as an open liquor cabinet. It’s a functional statement piece that ties the living areas together.

Custom Dining Table Design - Dense Reds

Dining Table

The custom round-edge dining table is a standout feature. Crafted with 130mm-wide boards, the generous width of the laminations showcases its distinctive grain. The table’s form and finish create a sense of strength and refinement, perfectly suited to the home’s modern aesthetic.

Buffet Benchtop

The buffet benchtop was built with an apron edge, to give the benchtop a thicker, more substantial appearance, adding weight and definition to the cabinetry below.
Our recycled timber benchtops can often be placed over existing joinery. For this project, the benchtop was carefully designed to remain light in weight while maintaining structural integrity.

Mantelpiece

The mantelpiece continues the details seen in the buffet benchtop, providing a cohesive look throughout the space. The clean lines and warm timber tones bring balance to the modern fireplace setting.

Coffee Table

The custom coffee table features a slim top with bold, thick legs for a solid, grounded presence. It’s a piece that speaks to the homeowner’s design sensibility and our commitment to craftsmanship.

Ottoman Lounge Tray

The final touch is a round ottoman lounge tray, a modern take on a traditional serving tray. Designed to sit neatly atop an upholstered ottoman, it creates a practical hard surface for drinks, meals, or décor. Both functional and decorative, it adds a sense of completeness to the room.

A Cohesive and Crafted Space

Each of these custom elements contributes to a unified, thoughtfully designed space. The recycled Dense Red pieces bring a warmth and tactility that modern homes often crave. Our design and workshop teams loved bringing Ian’s vision to life, showing just how beautifully sustainable materials can work in a refined setting.
