Canberra Local Ash Kitchen Island and Benchtops

This approach is known as biophilic design, an architectural and interior design framework that seeks to strengthen the connection between people and nature within built environments. Kitchen Benchtops and Oversized Island

Canberra Local Ash was selected for the kitchen benchtops and oversized island. Three separate benchtops were installed throughout the kitchen, each with a consistent width of 635mm but varying lengths to suit the design.

The centrepiece of the space is the impressive island benchtop, measuring 2500 x 1500 x 37mm. A benchtop of this scale creates a striking focal point, while also providing ample space for cooking, entertaining and everyday family life.

Island Installation

Large-format timber benchtops require careful planning and installation. Wide benchtops can be prone to cupping or movement if they are not adequately supported, particularly when spanning large areas.

For an island of this size, additional support and bracing were incorporated to help maintain stability and keep the benchtop flat over time. With extensive experience installing timber benchtops of all sizes, our team was able to complete the installation without issue.

Recycled Timber Flooring and Skirting Boards

Canberra Local Ash, salvaged from the roof structures of demolished Canberra homes, was also chosen for the flooring throughout the project. The flooring features our standard 78mm-wide tongue and groove boards, which have been remilled and clean dressed to create a consistent finish while retaining the character of the recycled timber.

The skirting boards were made from the same Canberra Local Ash, creating continuity throughout the space and tying the flooring and joinery elements together.
