It’s been great to see what people are making with Thor’s Hammer timber. From a jewellery box and bass guitar to furniture, shelving and a rather clever bike hanger, our Thor’s Hammer in the Wild competition has already turned up some fantastic entries.

Jewellery Box
This exquisite jewellery box has been twice recycled, with the timber used being salvaged from one of our firewood pallets. Customer David is retired and makes beautiful woodwork pieces as gifts for his family and friends. The jewellery box was made as a 70th birthday gift for his sister, as a beautiful keepsake for a milestone birthday.
Bass Guitar
This incredible bass guitar was made by one of our customers back in 2017 using Brush Box and Ironbark. The body and neck are made from Brush Box, with a thin plank of Ironbark used for the fretboard.
Finished with Osmo polyx oil, the natural character of the Australian hardwoods really shines through. It’s always great to see our timber transformed into something so unique.
Hallway Table
This beautiful hall table was made using Spotted Gum, with parquetry retained from the floor during a home renovation incorporated into the centre panel.
It’s the maker’s first piece of furniture, following years of smaller projects including picture frames, trays, boxes and knife blocks. His woodworking journey began after inheriting his late father’s tools and a modest stock of craft timbers.
It’s fantastic to see where our timber ends up and the personal stories behind the things people make with it.
Bicycle Stand
Amy spotted this beautiful piece of timber at Thor’s Hammer and knew it would make the perfect feature piece at home. She collected it by bike, (Thor’s on Bike), and has now given it a practical second life as a bike hanger, (Bike on Thor’s).
We love seeing how our timber finds its way into people’s homes and takes on a whole new purpose.
Table & Shelving
Amazing joinery work from one of our youngest woodworkers. James is still at school, but that hasn’t stopped him turning Thor’s Hammer timber into his own furniture.
The coffee table is made from Brushbox and topped with Tumut marble. James has also built a set of bookshelves using Canberra Local Ash, gluing together 150mm-wide boards to create the panels.
Round Dining Table
This beautiful 1200mm round dining table was made by Harry from Canberra’s Ironbark Studios, using recycled Bluegum/Coastal Reds.
The timber’s natural colour, character and history really shine through in this piece, giving these old boards a new life as a centrepiece for the home.
