Kauri/ Hoop Pine

Kauri Pine was mainly used as floor boards in old houses prior to the 1930’s. It is also sometimes found in old kitchen cabinets and furniture. Wide boards could be cut from the huge trees. Recycled Kauri is still highly valued by furniture makers and as flooring because of its straight, tight grain & beautiful colour.

TIMBER KNOWLEDGE Kauri Pine is a beautiful tall tree native to New Zealand, which were exploited and over harvested in the 19th and 20th century from QLD & New Zealand. Thankfully the remaining native Kauri forests are protected today but the timber is now scarce. The timber is a clean, buttery yellow softwood.
