NATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE - RECYCLED TIMBER RENOVATION

The foyer of the National Convention Centre has had a makeover using recycled timber cladding from Thor’s Hammer.

Blackbutt and Ash timbers were salvaged from house roof timbers in Sydney, before being delivered to our workshop for metal detecting, de-nailing and sorting. For the National Convention Centre cladding we then halved the timbers through the band saw and then set to it with a wire brush to clean up any splinters or dirt - while at the same time retaining the rough sawn patina of the historic timber.

The curved batten cladding was made in the joinery by sawing the timber into very thin sections and gluing them together again clamped into a curved form.

We’re so glad the NCC decided to showcase this incredibly beautiful Australian Hardwood, approximately 50 to 100 years old, originally logged from old growth forests along the East Coast of NSW. It makes absolutely no sense for this amazing resource to go to the tip. As always with timber recycling there was some serious elbow grease and effort required to give it new life!
