SALESPERSON & RECEPTIONIST



SALESPERSON & receptionIST

HIRING NOW!

We are looking for a full time showroom salesperson and receptionist with great communication skills to be the first point of contact with our customers, and to guide them through our showroom, workshop and range of recycled timber products. You will need to be able to quickly gain an all round understanding of our product range, so an ongoing interest or background in design, building or home renovation would be useful preparation for the role.  

Key duties will include:

  • Greeting and welcoming customers and answering phone

  • Dealing with enquiries and where appropriate doing a detailed discovery with the customer. Passing on briefs to our design team to follow up.

  • Guiding customers through our showroom, timber stock and workshop.

  • Making sales of our recycled timbers, building products (recycled timber posts & beams, flooring, cladding and decking), environmentally friendly finishes and hardware.

  • Quoting and selling furniture and other products from our gallery.

About You

  • Passionate about recycling timber and excited to work with our high-quality, environmentally friendly products. Environmental responsibility is at the core of everything we do at Thor’s Hammer. 

  • A great listener and communicator with a wide variety of customers, including home renovators, builders, tradespeople and designers.

  • Meticulous, with excellent attention to detail and to the admin components of the role.

  • Positive and enthusiastic. 

  • Enjoy quickly moving between a variety of task, with strong abilities in time management and work organisation.

  • Able to quickly learn new knowledge about our products and processes.

 

Experience and background 

  • Minimum 2 years experience in customer service and sales.

  • An ability to quickly learn new technical information - a practical or design background will help.

  • Excellent general computer and organisational skills.

  • Demonstrated success in previous roles.

Marketing & Content Manager

POSITION FILLED

Location: Primarily on site at the Thor’s Hammer Canberra Workshop

Time commitment: Part time 4 days per week (negotiable)

Reports to: Thor Diesendorf - Managing Director

We are searching for a community minded Marketing & Content Manager to be responsible for all aspects of our marketing operations. You will have great skills in writing and content creation, combined with the knowledge and experience to create or organise our wider marketing including advertising, PR and the occasional event.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Content Creation & Co-ordination

  • Develop engaging and creative social media content that aligns with our brand identity

  • Create quick and candid content with action photos, videos and staff interviews around our showroom and workshop

  • Schedule and manage social media posts across various platforms

  • Manage regular photo and video shoots on and off-site

  • Craft compelling blogs and website copy to enhance our online storytelling

  • Ongoing updates of website; stock, products, imagery, new landing pages

  • Work with our SEO provider to continuously adapt and improve our website

  • Writing and scheduling eDMs (1-2 per month) mostly using content you have already created for social media and blogs

PR & Advertising

  • Liaise and coordinate with our Google Ads and SEO agency

  • Facilitate and/or organise social media advertising including Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest

  • Co-ordinate the creation of and distribution of primarily content based advertising assets with external providers (TV, radio, news outlets, magazines, blogs & influencers)

Administration

  • Managing asset sharing systems and processes in Airtable

  • Ongoing improvements to workflow, platforms and collaboration

  • Providing reporting and budgets to the Managing Director

  • Working with our Design & Sales team to categorise and upload photos to our web based DAM 

  • Managing our reviews platform to generate customer feedback

Events

  • Providing marketing materials for events such as workshop tours and exhibitions in our Mixing Room Gallery. This year we are turning 30 so there will be some extra events and activities happening.

ABOUT YOU:

  • 3 + year's experience in the content creation and marketing skills outlined above

  • The ability to write quickly and clearly and develop a style which reflects the values and culture of Thor’s Hammer

  • Basic photography and video skills for social media - more advanced skills would be a plus but are not essential

  • A very efficient & organised approach to your work

  • Excellent computer skills

  • A passion for recycling, design & architecture and to be part of a company making environmentally responsible, high quality products

  • A good understanding of current digital marketing trends

  • Previous experience building successful content marketing campaigns with strong engagement

SKILLED JOINER / CABINETMAKER

(CURRENTLY NOT HIRING FOR POSITION)

Thor’s Hammer is growing and we are looking for a skilled Joiner / Cabinetmaker to join our team of talented makers. 

To succeed in this role you will need to have the skills to produce high quality custom designed furniture, bench tops and entry doors from beautiful recycled Australian Hardwoods. 

A trade qualification in cabinetmaking or equivalent, plus at least 2 years experience working with solid timber in a production environment are essential for this position. Hand tool and machine skills are both important, with an eye for detail and accuracy essential.

TIMBER RECYCLER

(CURRENTLY NOT HIRING FOR POSITION)

Thor’s Hammer is looking for a strong, capable person to work full time in our timber recycling team. The main tasks are:

  • Working as part of a team to de-nail and metal detect timbers. (Timbers need to be completely free of nails so our dressing and joinery machinery isn’t damaged).

  • Sorting recycled timbers by species, and grading for quality.

  • Grinding and brushing posts and beams.

  • Assisting with selecting timbers and picking out orders.

  • Moving packs of timber with the forklift.

  • Assisting the dressing team to machine timbers.

We will provide training in a heap of skills including:

  • Identifying timber species.

  • Grading timber.

  • Forklift operation.

  • Hand tools – hammer, pliers, pinch bar, metal detector.

  • Power tools – air drill, air de-nailer, circular saw, grinder.

  • Machinery – De-nailing line and chalk line docker, custom built floor board cleaning machine, timber dressing machinery.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about recycling timber and enjoys working as part of a team. You will need to be able to persist with repetitive work (although there is plenty of opportunity to move between different tasks during each day). 

We are open to the position being full time or 4 days per week.

TIMBER MACHINIST

(CURRENTLY NOT HIRING FOR POSITION)

Thor’s Hammer is looking for a motivated person with a passion for recycled timber and experience in physical work to join our Dressing team. 

As Assistant Timber Machinist, your job is to dress our recycled timbers and make profiles such as flooring, decking and cladding to fulfil customer orders. You will also be dressing timbers for our joinery workshop to make into furniture and bench tops, and making products such as beam seats and stair treads. You will learn to operate and set up woodworking machinery including jointer, thicknesser, spindle moulder, 6 head moulder, band resaw and panel saw.

To succeed in this job you need to have an aptitude with machinery and a strong interest in timber and recycling. 

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a positive can do attitude

  • Is physically capable and strong

  • Is a good team player 

  • Has experience in process work

  • Has an understanding for machinery / mechanical things 

  • With excellent attention to detail

A forklift licence and previous experience with timber / timber machining would be a plus.

For the right person we can provide training including:

  • Timber species identification 

  • Grading timbers

  • Forklift operation & licence

  • Operation of dressing machinery

  • Glueing and sanding stair treads and bench tops

The salary will reflect the skills and experience you have relevant to the role. Usually the starting rate in this role would be around $29 to $34 per hour (casual). A full time arrangement with conditions is also possible. There is plenty to learn and lots of potential to develop skills and advance in this role - up to full timber machinist and beyond.
