David is pictured here making a display sample for a newly received load of rare Kauri Pine salvaged flooring. There’s about 50 SQM in the pack which has been salvaged from the Hordern Family home built in 1920 in Vaucluse Sydney. The flooring currently has an old resin coating which can be left as is or easily sanded back and oiled after install.

A new stack of Red Gum slabs stacked for drying in the workshop.
Working with slabs is a bit of a dark art, requiring lots of experience and a fair bit of science to do it right.
There are lots of people out there having a go at milling slabs from fallen trees. The issues usually come with the drying.
