THE GAMES TABLE

The Games Table was devised by Thor’s Hammer staff member David Scerri, for gamers, families and anyone wanting to create a discreet games area in their home and space.

How does the table work?

The Games Table quickly transforms from a dining table to a games table by offering two different tops; the lower level allows storage for games so you don’t have to pack up or ruin incomplete jigsaw puzzles and chess games. The removable top is designed in sections for ease of handling as well as a modular solution to increase functionality.

When dinner is ready and your guests arrive, pop the second level back on and your table is instantly ready for use as a dining room table. You can also choose to have just one half of the table as a games table, or, take the centre off for a two player game and have your snacks and drinks on either side.

The process of design

The process to design this table involved our talented designers and makers, working together with the client to make sure that the table fulfilled all our client’s gaming needs!

The process began with preliminary sketches, as pictured below, including hand-drawings (pictured above) and digital drawings using CAD (computer-aided design), pictured below.

As part of the design process, David digitally drew the table using CAD to give the customer a realistic preview of the final table design. Creating a 3-dimensional drawing helped to sort out any kinks and obstacles prior to manufacturing. The animation shows how the push mechanism works to remove the tops and reveal the playing surface.

The Games Table was based on traditional design, using corner legs and mortise and tenon joinery. Braces were also dovetailed into the underside of the table tops to ensure it stands the test of time.
