Our joinery team at Thor's Hammer handcrafted this table using Australian hardwoods salvaged from house demolitions in Sydney.
We love the design of this table, and the compound angles in the base and three way join in the foot rail gave our craftspeople a chance to show their skills with some fine joinery.
Every piece of furniture we make at Thor's Hammer is built to last using hand fitted timber joints. This table uses deep mortice and tenon joints which utilise the strength of the material to create a joint that remain strong for generations.
The timber in this table is over 75 years old and has been slowly seasoning in a house roof just waiting to be turned into a beautiful table! The timber would have been harvested from old growth forests in the early 1900's and provides extremely dense material for making strong house roofs, or in this case tables.
In this piece we used a mix of extremely dense and well seasoned Australian Red Hardwoods including Ironbark and North Coast Mahogany, with the larger sections coming from old hanging beams and lintels.
The unusual design was created by Studio Thunk and supplied by the client.
