This Blackbutt floor has just finished being laid in Downer using timber we recently salvaged from RAAF Richmond. Here is some more info on the salvage job here.
The client came to visit us at the brickworks to view samples, we discussed how their house is used and the final look and feel they wanted in terms of colour and finish to narrow down sample selection.
There are essentially two floor board options we offer in a variety of species / colours:
Salvaged Floor: a more rustic look with nail holes and plenty of character from years of use can be sanded back and finished to a variety of levels.
Re Milled Floor: a cleaner more finished look achieved by taking larger sections of recycled timber and running them through our saw mill to create floor boards.
The client settled on salvaged Blackbutt floors from the RAAF Richmond Base which are full of character and fairly light in colour. They didn't want to worry about the floor getting scratched during wild house parties!
The client was there with the floor sanding contractor when they started the job. This allowed sample sections to be started and the client to select exactly how much to sand back to get the finish and colour they wanted.
The floor was laid by local carpentry legend and all round good guy Tim Day. AJ Williams was brought in to sand and finish the floor in Osmo Hardwax oil. Both contractors engaged by the client did an amazing job!
With young children in the house, Osmo is the best possible choice of floor finish because it is 100% natural and even suitable for use on childrens wooden toys!
In addition to this Osmo finish is repairable so the whole floor does not have to be sanded back if scratches occur, it is a simple and cost effective re coating process.
The best part? The client was absolutely stoked with the end result! Here is what they had to say:
We could not be happier with our new floor, it has totally transformed our house! The team at Thor's Hammer were fantastic to deal with, providing heaps of information and samples, helping us to make a really big decision! It was an amazing experience to watch the transformation of old weathered timber that arrived in our driveway to beautiful finished timber on our floor.
