When Thor's Hammer moved to our new location at the old Tip Top factory in Mildura St it was exciting to find a large upstairs space with a lot of potential. While our old premises at the Brickworks was epic in scale and with the old industrial backdrop of the kilns, we always lacked space for displaying our work and meeting with clients.
The new gallery also allows us to further engage with the Canberra art and design community and we’re really excited about future exhibitions and events to come, such as our ‘10 Tables’ Exhibition for Design Canberra starting November 6th.
It’s been a really great experience to have the Klaus Moje Glass Award here as the first exhibition in the gallery. Canberra Glassworks have have done a wonderful job setting up the space and it is quite remarkable to see it now from where it began.
The new Thor’s Hammer building is an old bread factory and the gallery space used to be the dough mixing room. When we first got here in late 2018 there were pipes and machinery everywhere, a few holes in the floor from the old dough pipes, and plenty of possums. So there’s been a bit of a transformation!
The Klaus Moje Award night was great fun, with the artists, friends and industry members joining to congratulate the finalists and eventual winner - Kirstie Rea. We were really impressed with the amazing works on display and also want to thank Canberra Glassworks for running the set up and event so efficiently and making the first exhibition such a success.
