The Hackett Compost Collective is a micro-hauling, food waste recycling and compost producing social enterprise based in Canberra. We were really glad to supply some recycled mixed brown hardwoods for their new community composting unit which has been designed and built by HCC for public use.

We’ve just machined a fresh batch of slabs. They were originally salvaged from farm trees blown down in cyclone Larry in QLD, and the farmer moved down close to Canberra and brought the slabs with him. They’ve been drying for about 10 years and are just perfect for making furniture.

Lola worked at Thor’s for several months before deciding to make joinery her career. She has embarked on an apprenticeship with us and now splits her time between our joinery and CIT on weekdays and into the bush whenever she gets the chance.

Julian Suitor is a familiar face here at the Hammer. A blacksmith based in Braidwood, Julian often incorporates timber into his work, so is often found in our dressed timber racks looking for the perfect piece of recycled timber. An architect by trade, John Nott has been designing with timber since the 70’s. John has been behind some significant designs in Canberra such as the Telstra Tower revolving restaurant, Rydges Hotel (formally The Pavillion) and the Rex Hotel to name a few.
