Thor’s Hammer started out in 1994 working from the old Canberra Brickworks, a heritage industrial site with the oldest buildings dating back to 1915. We worked at the Brickworks for 25 years, growing the business and experimenting with better ways to recycle timber.
In 2019 the Brickworks were slated for redevelopment and we moved to a bigger premises in the old Tip Top factory at 10 Mildura St, Griffith ACT.
The Brickworks.
Our workshop at The Brickworks.
When we got here the factory had been closed for 10 years and it was still full of the old bread making machinery, there were pipes everywhere and holes in the floor and the ceilings were falling in due to roof leaks.
We got to use our recycling skills on the old Tip Top building and it has turned out better than we could have hoped or expected. We are now up-cycling old buildings as well as timber!

The new office and showroom has plenty of space for displays and samples of all the many different recycled timbers and finishes available. The old dough mixing room upstairs has been converted into the Mixing Room Gallery, which at the moment is full of our tables. The main workshop is roomy and we have designed it so it flows really well from the timber arriving, to de-nailing and metal detecting, to dressing and then joinery. It is so much more efficient than our old set up at the Brickworks.
Final assembly and finished products are up near the showroom and office where you can watch our artisans putting the finishing touches on your piece - built with care and attention to quality, a piece designed to be enjoyed and handed down to your children and grandchildren.
