Check out these whopping railway bridge sleepers from the bridge on the Bungendore to Captains Flat line built in 1940. They’ve got such great patina, and they’re in good condition.
These are very durable hardwoods and would be great architectural and landscape features. If you’re after a big lintel above an entrance way or a mantle piece full of character, these are the ones. Excellent material for unusual landscaping projects, like retaining walls, sculptural screens, pathways and steps. Check out some photos below to get you inspired.
There are over 50 of them here, so enough for a decent project. They are bigger than a normal sleeper 2.7m long by 250x150mm and have large metal plates on both ends (which are hard to remove!) but make for a great feature!
