The Bandsaw Award was started by our Timber Machinist and Band Saw Operator Ewald Bouwer to track our efficiency in the workshop and keep the guys motivated! *
Callum Putt has been named round 2 winner of the Thor’s Hammer Bandsaw Award with one pack of timber stacked off the saw in 17 minutes 28 seconds. Congrats mate!
Previous champion Jackson Rumble’s record of 26:33 was soundly beaten, so it doesn’t look like Callum will be hanging up his gloves any time soon.
Behind the guys you can see the packs of recycled timber ready and waiting to be turned into an awesome recycled timber deck at your house this summer!
Here at Thor’s Hammer, we recycle very dense Australian hardwoods out of old house roofs. We get beautiful timbers like Blackbutt, Brushbox and Spotted Gum. We split the old rafters and joists in half, to make outdoor decking, indoor flooring and cladding.
To saw these timbers efficiently and with minimal waste, we have a 54” Robinson bandsaw. This beast of a machine weighs over 5 tons; the bottom wheel sits in a pit 3 feet deep and is big and strong enough to cut through the super dense recycled hardwoods.
Depending on what the customer is using the timbers for we can then pass this sawn timber through our 6 head moulder to profile a new tongue and groove to make a solid timber floor board, or a rounded edge to make a decking board, or we hit the timber with a wire brush to make a rustic cladding.
If you want recycled timber with character for your deck, checkout the decking area of our website and give us a call!
*The safety of our guys is the number one priority at our workshop, and we would never allow a speed competition for passing timber through a saw. This competition is for the guy stacking the timber once it is out of the saw.
