For the first time ever Thor’s Hammer is having an exhibition of furniture, and you are invited!
On Thursday 20 November at 5 Lonsdale St Braddon from 6pm, we will be hosting the opening of a collaborative exhibition featuring works designed by: Enrico Taglietti, Thor Diesendorf, Geoff Farquar-Still and Peter Vandermark.
All the works have been built at the workshops at the Old Canberra Brickworks, and many of the pieces are collaborative. We reckon that the synergy and creative energy unleashed when you get a bunch of highly experienced designers and artisans in steel and timber working together is going to make for a very interesting exhibition!

Enrico Taglietti is a respected Canberra architect who has made a lasting and important contribution to Canberra’s built environment.
Enrico first began designing furniture in Italy in the 1950’s. Sculptural forms and strong geometries can be seen in his work.
In 2012, Enrico and Thor were celebrating the completion of a Taglietti designed letterbox over a whisky, and Thor took note of an unusual chair “Poliedrica”, which Enrico had originally produced and exhibited in New York in the 1950’s. Thor suggested a small change to the chair and ended up taking it back to his workshop.
Enrico took the opportunity to commission Thor’s Hammer to build a series of prototypes and a new Polyedrica was born.
Enrico and Thor will be presenting the first release of the new 2014 Polyedrica Chair, a table and picture frame.
The material comes first for Thor. Wood is a beautiful and interesting material. It is incredibly strong along the grain, but not across the grain, and it expands and contracts with changes in humidity. Thor loves to work out design solutions which make best use (and sometimes push the boundaries) of the natural qualities of timber.
Thor’s business, Thor’s Hammer, is a joinery, sawmill and recycled timber yard based at the Old Brickworks, Canberra. Thor will be exhibiting some of his more playful designs built in recycled Australian Hardwoods.
Geoff Farquhar-Still has a full time sculpture practice ranging from intricate small-scale machines to ambitious installations, large scale public art and interactive play environments.
With a practice firmly rooted in hands-on making activities, Geoff combines everyday items and architectural materials to create reinterpretations of familiar objects and experiences.
Geoff has been creating work from the Old Canberra Brickworks since 2011, and Thor and Geoff are just starting to explore the potential of collaborative work in steel and timber. At least one exciting new collaborative piece will be exhibited - More than just a Table…..
Peter's interests are in the domestic, the urban, the architectural, the mechanical, the semiotic (signs and signage), and even the way in which spoken language can manifest as a 'solid' which impacts upon the world.
Peter will be including two of his chair based sculptures in the show.
