Salvaged Flooring – Detailed Information
When floorboards arrive from demolitions, we renew the boards as follows:- Remove nails and staples wherever possible
- Dock out damaged sections of the boards
- Clean out old dirt that may have built up in the tongue and groove using a tungsten scraper
- Check that there is plenty of wear left in the boards above the tongue
- Tally the good boards and stack them into neat packs ready for transport
- Check the moisture content before delivery – must be to Australian Standard.
Our boards are ready to lay. You will not need to perform any extra time consuming preparation on site.
AppearanceSalvaged Flooring was once floor boards in factories and houses. They have evenly spaced nail holes where they were fixed to the joists. Depending on their age, they often have fine cracks and a darker colour than usual. The top surface is not normally planed or sanded by Thor’s Hammer, but is left for the customer to sand after installation. Note: Our samples are sanded and finished with Osmo Hardwax Oil. Salvaged flooring does not come sanded and finished.Salvaged Flooring SpeciesStocks vary depending on what recent demolitions have been yielding. Many customers contact us well in advance so we will have time to source the species they require. The most common species of salvaged floorboards are:
SizesThe most common size in Salvaged Flooring is 80 to 90mm wide by around 20mm thick, but we do regularly find boards as narrow as 60mm and as wide as 135mm.Packs are made from random lengths with a minimum of 950mm and up to 6m long. The average lengths are usually quite good as most of our Salvaged Flooring is recycled from old warehouses or factories, which have large rooms. |
